The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Indian Army is all set to launch Agni-II – an intermediate range ballistic missile -- from Wheeler Island on August 29 (Monday). Sources tell Tarmak007 that the last-minute preparations for the user-trial are currently underway, for a possible Monday launch. “We (DRDO) are providing all logistic support to the SFC for the Agni-II launch. We are through with the range integration work today,” sources said.
The missile was last successfully test-fired (for full range) by the SFC on May 17, 2010. The pencil-like long range nuclear-capable missile can hit targets over 2000 kms. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art navigation system capable of taking the missile towards designated target very accurately.
