Hyderabad:  Union Minister for Human Resource Development M M Pallam Raju on Saturday called upon India’s aerospace fraternity to share their strengths and wisdom to catch up for the lost time and opportunities. Delivering a short and crisp speech during the International Conference and Exhibition on Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) in Hyderabad, Raju wanted the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) to expand its mandate beyond creating human resources. He asked DRDO chief V K Saraswat and GMR chairman G M Rao to share their wisdom to widen the aerospace research and create more opportunities for innovation.
“The AeSI should take the lead and formulate a policy to accelerate various aerospace projects in India. We don’t have much time left and we need to really move faster,” Raju said. “It is the shared vision of scientists that take India’s aerospace journey at faster pace,” he added.
He said in 2010, India recorded passenger traffic of 50 million and the forecast shows that it will be 180 million by 2020. “It is great to see the development of smaller airports. I am ready to support the aerospace industry through my ministry, by producing more talent,” Raju said.
Raju said during his previous tenure as the Minister of State of Defence, he has seen the capabilities of HAL, DRDO and PSUs and expressed confidence that with renewed thrust from AeSI, India’s goal of making RTA can be achieved within the stipulated time.
During the occasion, the minister conferred Dr Biren Roy Space Science Design Award, instituted by the Aeronautical Society of India to G. Satheesh Reddy, outstanding scientist and Associate Director, Research Centre Imarat, DRDO, Hyderabad. The award is in his recognition to his contributions towards the navigation sciences and aerospace engineering in the country.
