The Indian Defense Ministry intends to shift the Army Service Corps Center North out of Gaya in Bihar and merge it with the ASC Center South at Bengaluru in Karnataka.
The ASC will be relocated within a year, Indian Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh said on Aug. 12. “This will help to have all units at one location and expand its operations to train about 40% more officers to meet the shortage,” he explained. “The relocation of such a strategic facility will mean a lot because wherever [the] army goes, there will be concurrent economic benefits to the area.” With the merger, the ASC center in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore) will train more than 5,000 officers, versus 3,000 officers currently.
